Sri Lanka seeks Singapore support to increase FDI

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris, has requested assistance from the Singapore government to secure bridge financing, increase Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), and expand opportunities for Sri Lankan exports to Singapore.

At the invitation of Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris paid a two-day official visit to Singapore from Wednesday (08) to Thursday (10). It is noteworthy that it has been four years since a Sri Lankan Foreign Minister has paid an official visit to Singapore.

The Minister also expressed gratitude for the Singapore Red Cross’ recent appeal for humanitarian assistance, to which the Singapore government pledged $100,000. The Red Cross appeal’s first shipment of medical supplies has already arrived in Sri Lanka.

The Minister, who was also in Singapore for the Shangri-La Dialogue organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) has discussed the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka with his Singaporean counterparts.
