Over 100 schools prosecuted for breeding Dengue

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Authorities including Health Officials, Police and the Tri- Forces engaged in the inspection of School premises for dengue on 28th and 29th April after the new school term began on 26th April.

Health Minister Rajitha Senarathne had instructed the National Dengue Prevention Unit to take steps to clean the school premises for Dengue and submit a report after inspecting each premise after the new school term began.

Parents and the Staff members too were engaged in cleaning the school premises on the instructions of the Ministry of Education.

Under the program, 10, 089 premises in Western Province were inspected and 298 of them were identified with larvae. 2,091 premises were corrected, 630 were issued notices, while 106 were prosecuted.

The schools found with possible mosquito breeding places will be given a grace period of one month to clean their premises. The principal of the school will be prosecuted if possible mosquito breeding places are found even after the grace period.
