Cabraal’s travel ban extended to 25th July

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The overseas travel ban imposed on Ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal, was extended to the 25th of July 2022, by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela on Monday (23).

Summons were again issued on Cabraal to be present in court on that day.

The Ex-Governor of the Central Bank was named as a suspect in a complaint filed with the Colombo Court, alleging that Ajith Nivard Cabraal was responsible for the misappropriation of public funds while serving as Governor.

Although summons were issued previously for Cabraal to be present in court on Monday (23), counsel appearing for the Ex-Governor said that his client would be present in court at the next hearing.

Accordingly, the Additional Magistrate ordered for the complaint to be called up again on the 25th of July 2022, and extended the travel ban as well.

Counsel appearing for the complainants requested court to call for a list of parties that were paid with respect to the International Sovereign Bond settlement on the 18th of January 2022.

Accordingly, the Court ordered the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to produce the said list of parties at the next hearing.
