(UTV | UNITED STATES) – Production has begun on Zack Snyder’s sci-fi adventure saga “Rebel Moon” with the filmmaker releasing a tweet with some photos confirming his massive space opera is very much happening.
Sofia Boutella, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, Charlie Hunnam, Rupert Friend, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera and Cary Elwes star in the film based on a “Star Wars” pitch that Snyder took to Lucasfilm a decade ago and serves as both his love letter to that franchise and the works of Akira Kurosawa.
The story tells of a peaceful colony on the galaxy’s edge threatened by a tyrannical regent. The desperate colonists dispatch a young woman (Boutella) with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighbouring planets to help them make a stand.
Snyder co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad with the film aiming to launch a new franchise IP.
