(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has launched an inquiry to determine any human rights violations of individuals arrested during a public protest in Mirihana.
The Human Rights Commission is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to discuss further measures pertaining to the incident.
Tuesday’s talks will focus on further action to be taken over possible human rights violations by the government or any other party.
The Human Rights Commission said it received information regarding all arrested individuals and the unrest that followed.
The Commission noted that investigations could be initiated if a complaint is lodged by any party over possible human rights violations.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission also emphasized that the protesters in Mirihana could not be prosecuted under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
