Seven-and-a-half-hour power cuts today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Seven-and-a-half-hour power cuts will be imposed across the island today as well.

Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Janaka Ratnayake said five-hour power cuts will be imposed between 8am and 6pm while two-and-a-half-hour power cuts will be imposed between 6pm and 11pm.

Power cuts will be imposed based on the grouping announced by the Public Utilities Commission previously.

Lengthy power cuts have been imposed in the country for the past several days owing to the current fuel shortage and the dollar crisis.

The Ceylon Electricity Board had been requesting permission from the Public Utilities Commission for scheduled power cuts, owing to the inability of power plants to function without fuel.
