Diesel shortage threatens to cripple bus services

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Private bus operators say they will be compelled to withdraw buses from service tomorrow, if authorities fail to release adequate stocks of diesel for private operators.

Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne said there is a major shortage of diesel in the market.

He said the State Minister of Transport had indicated that fuel required for private buses will be supplied through depots owned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

Wijeratne said they are not facing a major issue today since it is a public holiday, however, noted if they do not have adequate stocks of diesel, private bus services will be suspended.
