(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka says a decision on whether consent will be granted to the request by the Ceylon Electricity Board to approve power cuts over the next three months, will be announced today.
Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake said the CEB has sought to impose power cuts in February, March, and April.
Ratnayake said the PUCSL informed the CEB to refrain from enforcing power cuts till next Monday.
He added they will meet with the General Manager of the CEB and other senior officials to discuss the concerns further.
He claimed that during the past two to three weeks the CEB did its utmost to provide power without any disruptions, adding that they are unable to continue to do so as consumers and state offices have failed to support the CEB.
The PUCSL Chairman said on the 10th of February 2,700MW were generated during peak hours amounting to 47gWH being used.
He claimed that hydro power generation exceeded 12gWH.
