Power cuts expected today as well

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Trade unions claim that sporadic power cuts are a result of the Ceylon Electricity Board not receiving adequate fuel from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

Convener of the Samagi United Trade Union Ananda Palitha said power cuts were imposed on Thursday after the Minister of Energy claimed that fuel will be provided continuously.

He claimed that power cuts are being enforced as the CPC failed to provide fuel to the CEB.

Palitha questioned if the Minister is deliberately attempting to inconvenience the government.

He claimed that if diesel and furnace oil is lacking and if power stations are shutting down, it is evident that there is a fuel crisis.

Ananda Palitha added orders have not been placed for furnace oil shipments thus far, stating that a diesel shipment has not docked in Sri Lanka as claimed by the Energy Minister on Thursday.

Therefore, he said power cuts could likely be imposed today as well.
