Primary schools to remain open during A/L exam period

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Education has issued an announcement regarding the granting of leave to primary schools during the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.

Additional Secretary for School Affairs of the Ministry of Education E.W.L.K. Egodawela stated that it has been decided to grant school holidays from 04 February to 06 March, covering the period from February 07 to March 05, 2022, when the 2021 GCE Advanced Level Examination will be held.

However, the announcement states that no leave will be given for the primary grades during that period.

Accordingly, leave will not be granted to primary grades and primary schools during this examination period, but if it is a school that is an impediment to maintaining the examination environment, the relevant principals should inform the Provincial Directors of Education through the Zonal Directors of Education, the Ministry of Education said.

The announcement further states that the Local Government Directors of Education will be empowered to grant leave to the primary grades of such schools and to recommend relevant assignments to such schools and to adopt learning methods during that period.
