(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ceylon Electricity Board says it is hoping to add the 300 MW generator that was inactive at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya power plant for weeks to the national grid today.
A 300 MW generator at the Norochcholai power plant, which adds 900 MW to the national grid, had a sudden breakdown on the 3rd of December.
The Kelanitissa Diesel Power Plant is currently supplying the 300 MW of electricity which is usually provided to the national grid by the third generator of the Norochcholai power plant.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy says that the preliminary work of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery which was closed for about 27 days has been resumed.
The Ministry had earlier announced that the refinery would be closed from the 3rd of January due to the inability to obtain dollars to purchase crude oil.
However, a ship carrying 90,000 metric tons of crude oil arrived in the island recently and steps were taken by authorities to supply it to the crude oil refinery.
