Program to fit tuk fare meters to be implemented from 01 Feb

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Arrangements have been made to implement the program to fit fare meters on three wheelers from the 1st of February.

The Department of Measurement Units, Standards & Services says arrangements have been made to implement the program to fit fare meters on three wheelers from the 1st of February.

The Department said permission must be obtained prior to importing, manufacturing, or selling taxi fare meters according to the provisions of the Measurement Units, Standards and Services Act No. 35 of 1995.

Therefore, the Department advised the public not to purchase fare meters from unlicensed vendors.

The Measurements Department had also taken steps to set up mobile taxi meter service centres and to paste a sticker for approved taxi meters to check fare meters at the Divisional Secretariat level.

The initial phase is scheduled to commence from the Western Province and arrangements have been made to hold these centres at all Divisional Secretariat offices in the Western Province from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm.
