Final Decision on power cuts to be taken today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the electricity sector regulator, says that they will meet this afternoon to decide to reconsider the proposal made by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) on power interruption.

Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake says that the final decision will be taken at the meeting and announced before the evening.

The resumption of operations at the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will be delayed until January 30th due to delay in crude oil delivery says Secretary Ministry of Energy.

From January 26th, Kelanitissa Sojitz private power plant is not functioning due to maintenance work and national grid has lost about 162 megawatts of electricity.

Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake says that some people have not paid electricity bills for nearly two years amid the pandemic, which is a huge loss to the CEB. Therefore, the PUCSL chairman requested the public to pay the arrears in their electricity bills.
