Canteen owners suffers financial losses owing to the power outages

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The All Island Canteen Owners’ Association says they are suffering immeasurable financial losses owing to the frequent power outages.

Chairman of the Association Asela Sampath said large stocks of food items are also being wasted.

Asela Sampath noted when power cuts are imposed between 6 pm and 7.30 pm, no person patronizes shops afterward.

He said the daily income of small-scale canteen and shop owners has depleted and they will likely be out of business if the current trend continues.

Asela Sampath also noted that they are compelled to bin dairy products and meat items daily since they are unable to keep them in refrigerators at standard temperatures due to power cuts.
