Power cuts not to be imposed today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ceylon Electricity Board states that no power cuts will be imposed today (20).

The Engineers Union states that power cuts for 1 hr 45 minutes under 4 categories will be carried out yesterday (19) from 2.30 pm to 9.30 pm in order to balance out the electricity system.

Eranga Kudahewa, a committee member of the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union (CEBEU) states that all power plants located in the country will have to resort to power cuts due to insufficient fuel supply.

He said that the maximum capacity of the power plants was being exceeded and the decision had to be taken to maintain its balance.

The CEBEU states that the daily operations of the Kelanitissa Power Plant and the Sapugaskanda power plant are still inactive due to the inability to supply diesel and naphthene on 18 January.

He points out that due to the lack of fuel that is essential for daily power generation, there should be a power cut or the process should be protected to some extent.
