Special sports centres for children with Down Syndrome

(UTV | MONGOLIA) – Aiming to raise the level of children with Down syndrome in Mongolia, and providing them with assistance, the Mongolian Special Olympics Committee and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) jointly donated special Olympic equipment to more than 20 schools and sports centres in remote areas and district centres in Mongolia to help these children participate in sports and become future Special Olympics athletes.

B. Altantsetseg, Chairman of the Mongolian Special Olympics Committee stated that the goal of donating sports equipment is to train children with intellectual disabilities in Special Olympics and integrate them into society and seek to apply this to all schools to create an athletic generation.

It is mentioned that the first special class in Mongolia for children with Down Syndrome was established in 2015 at School No. 130 with the support of JICA. Currently, more than 30 children aged 6-16 are studying in 2 classes at the school.

These special class children are taught subjects such as language therapy, movement therapy, and household therapy by specialized teachers.
