Safety sticker mandatory on all liquor bottles from today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – It will be mandatory for a safety sticker to be displayed on all liquor bottles and cans that are locally manufactured or imported, from today.

However, Media Spokesman of the Department of Excise, Commissioner of Excise Kapila Kumarasinghe said time will be granted till April to finish liquor stocks that have been issued to the market, or to paste stickers on them.

The Excise Commissioner said the programme aims to ensure the government gains the tax revenue through liquor, and prevent tax fraud.

He said the relevant decision was reached following a study conducted over a lengthy period of time.

Kumarasinghe noted accordingly a digital symbol or safety sticker will be pasted on all liquor bottles and cans.

He added the Department expects the sticker to be pasted on all liquor bottles and cans in the market by the 1st of April.
