Govt. yet to provide funding to reopen universities

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Inter University Students Federation says the government has not yet provided funds to the relevant departments to reopen universities.

Speaking during an online protest held today, a representative of the IUSF said private sector offices, private universities, and private classes have resumed after returning to normalcy.

He said two months have lapsed, and no steps were taken to provide necessary facilities to reopen state universities.

The representative said neither government nor the vice-chancellors have prepared any course of action pertaining to reopening universities.

He said the main reason behind the lack of action was the government’s hesitancy to provide funding to state universities and funding for scholarships including the Mahapola scholarship.

The representative claimed the only policy of the government is to close state universities.
