Former Minister Gunaratne Weerakoon passes away

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former Cabinet Minister Gunaratne Weerakoon has passed away.

He passed away last night, aged 74.

His remains are currently placed at a funeral parlour in Borella, while his final rites are due to be performed tomorrow.

Gunaratne Weerakoon, who was the Chief Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the Karandeniya electorate, was elected to the Southern Provincial Council in 1994.

He was elected to Parliament in 2004 and held several ministerial posts.
