(UTV | AUSTRALIA) – Nitram wins big at AACTA Awards taking home eight trophies
Justin Kurzel’s “Nitram”, the controversial drama feature about the real-life mass shooting in Tasmania that changed the issue of gun control in Australia forever, swept this year’s Australian Academy of Cinema & Television Arts (AACTA) film awards. The movie dominated proceedings taking eight prizes including best film, direction, original screenplay and editing along with four acting honors for Caleb Landry-Jones, Judy Davis, Anthony LaPaglia and Essie Davis.
Only two other films won in more than one category – the Eric Bana-led mystery drama “The Dry” (best adapted screenplay, best cinematography) and the South Australia-shot “Mortal Kombat” movie (best production design, best sound). Monica Zanetti’s “Ellie and Abbie” took best indie film, “Higher Ground” won for best costumes, and “June Again” won for best score. On the TV front, the Anna Tov-led 1980s newsroom drama “The Newsreader” swept the ceremony with five wins including best drama series. Beloved cartoon “Bluey” took best children’s program. IFC Films has today acquired “Nitram” for U.S. release, opening in cinemas March 30th 2022 while also debuting day and date on the AMC+ service.
