(UTV | MYANMAR) – Researchers in international relations from Myanmar called for the necessity of boycotting commercial goods that deepen their suffering, especially as these transactions support the military authority in the country and help the external acquisition of Myanmar’s internal capabilities.
The researcher in international relations, Nga Linn (Nickname), who refused to reveal his name for security reasons, stated that the ” Tatmadaw”, Myanmar Military Leaders, has benefited from foreign investments to fuel its influence, pointing out that the protection of foreign investments by the Tatmadaw is similar to indirect support, as these countries, most notably China, will continue to support the Tatmadaw as long as the latter protects their interests.
It is noteworthy that Beijing was one of the few countries concerned with Myanmar that did not condemn the “Tatmadaw’s” approach and just urged all parties in Myanmar to resolve their disputes.
Myanmar is located on the border of China, and Beijing enjoys great and ancient influence in the country, as the two countries have active and ancient bilateral relations, since Myanmar was the first non-communist country to recognize the People’s Republic of China under the leadership of the Communist Party after its founding in 1949.
China and Myanmar signed a treaty of mutual friendship and non-aggression, and the two countries formally based their relations on the principles of peaceful coexistence.
At the end of the eighties, China and Myanmar signed trade agreements that legalized cross-border trade, and Beijing began providing significant military aid to the Burmese army, which has led to the rapid growth of China’s influence in Myanmar until now.
Since 2018, there have been reports of an astonishing rise in the number of Chinese projects in Myanmar, which are causing Myanmar to fall into a “debt trap”, in the same way, that China has placed Sri Lanka.
