Taq Kasra to undergo restoration works

(UTV | IRAQ) – ALIPH, which is an international cooperation initiative designed to meet the challenge of protecting cultural heritage, launched a campaign for rehabilitation and restoration of Taq Kasra in Ctesiphon Al-Mada’in, sponsored by Saudi Arabia, UAE, and France.

The landmark, which dates back to more than one thousand five hundred years, has partially collapsed and was neglected by concerned authorities.

Moreover, the archway is considered a landmark in the history of architecture and is said to be the largest single-span, unreinforced brick vault arch in the world.

In this regard, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Dr. Hassan Nazim confirmed that restoration works will go into different phases, reiterating that Iraq is replete with historical landmarks; more than 20 thousand places may need renovations and supervision, which are certainly out of their league.
