Govt won’t act discreetly regarding new Constitution -PM

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says the government will not act discreetly regarding the new Constitution.

Making the opening statement for the government during the committee stage debate of the 2022 Budget, Premier Rajapaksa said the draft for the new Constitution is being formulated at present.

The Prime Minister stressed thereafter it will be presented to Members of Parliament for discussion.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa further said the present government prioritised public safety, and decisions regarding public safety were reached at the appropriate time.

Premier Rajapaksa noted the government is planning to rebuild the economy that was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa accordingly presented the Budget with short-term and long-term plans.

The Prime Minister said the country needs social and economic development, adding the government hopes to create an economy to uplift the people during these difficult times.
