Child infections less, compared to senior citizens

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Health says only a low percentage of children are infected by the novel coronavirus in comparison to senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals.

Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo, Spokesperson of the Health Ministry Dr. Hemantha Herath said according to current data children are less likely to contract COVID-19 and suffer from complications.

Dr. Herath therefore noted that they have decided not to expose children to the vaccine.

He said since they do not have adequate data to support that children face serious complications, they have delayed administering vaccines to certain groups of children.

Dr. Hemantha Herath said if research findings and data support the need to vaccinate children, then they will not hesitate to administer the vaccines to them.
