(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association says talks were held with Minister of Transport Pavithra Wanniarachchi over a number of issues including transportation, traffic congestion with the opening of schools and the private bus industry that has been gravely affected by the pandemic.
President of the Association Gemunu Wijeratne said he tabled his plans and revealed existing practical issues.
He said bus owners will mainly focus on the safety of students during the pandemic, when tuition classes and universities also recommence.
Due to the rising fuel prices, Wijeratne added buses cannot operate during heavy traffic.
Therefore, Wijeratne proposed that schools be reopened on two shift basis, adding that the ‘Sisu Seriya’ programme will also continue.
