(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Court of Appeal has dismissed a petition filed challenging Ajith Nivard Cabraal’s appointment as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The petition was filed calling for the appointment to be declared null and void and to investigate charges against Governor Cabraal.
Justcies Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola accordingly dismissed the petition this morning without taking it up for consideration.
The Attorney General raised fundamental objections when the petition was taken up, claiming that the appointment of Ajith Nivard Cabraal as Governor was in line with Article 35 of the Constitution according to powers vested with the President and stated that a writ order cannot be issued challenging the appointment.
The judges accepted the objections raised by the Attorney General and therefore dismissed the petition.
The judges said the petitioner failed to establish a case and therefore dismissed the petition.
The petition was filed by former Governor of the Southern Province Keerthi Tennakoon.
