(UTV | SCOTLAND) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has highlighted the need for a new agricultural revolution that doesn’t go against nature.
Addressing a special conference organized by Sri Lanka, in line with the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, President Rajapaksa said kidney disease is a serious issue amongst the country’s farming community, adding that the excessive use of chemical fertiliser is a cause for the disease.
The Head of State added therefore the government took steps to minimise the import of chemical fertiliser and encourage organic farming.
President Rajapaksa said however groups supporting chemical fertiliser and farmers who use chemical fertiliser to increase the yield have opposed the move, which is unfortunate when considering the country’s rich agricultural heritage.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said all persons must protect Earth for future generations and must therefore contribute in any manner, to ensure good health.
