(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Disaster Magament Centre says landslide warnings issued in Passara in the Badulla District and Aranayaka in the Kegalle District are still in effect.

Deputy Director and Media Spokesman Pradeep Kodippili said the National Building Research Organisation had issued Level 1 landslide warnings to these areas.

He urged area residents to remain vigilant over landslide warnings.

Kodippili said heavy showers above 100mm can be expected in several areas across the island.

He said the sluice gates of the Kala Wewa and Rajanganaya Reservoir were opened due to showers experienced in the area.

Kodippili added sluice gates of the Laxapana, Victoria and Deduru Oya reservoirs were also opened due to showers experienced in the central hills.

He urged people residing in low-lying areas to remain vigilant.
