(UTV | COLOMBO) – In a series of stories on her Instagram account (via Forbes), Australian actress Ruby Rose has detailed the reasons why they left the title role on The CW’s “Batwoman” series so abruptly last May.
At the time, the reasons given were Rose was dealing with previous injuries and not wanting to continue while the actress remained mostly silent regarding the reasons for their exit. There was also indications Rose had some creative differences with the others on the show.
Rose’s posts today however indicate that while injuries did play a part, the reasoning is far more extensive than previously stated and goes well beyond that. Alleged terrible working conditions and on-set safety concerns also played a huge factor.
The 35-year-old actress shared videos and pictures from hospital visits taken whilst recovering from a serious neck injury, saying they were forced to return just ten days after their operation and risked their own health for the series. Rose wasn’t the only one as they discussed serious and graphic injuries to crewmembers.
There was also personal anger directed at the producers – showrunner Caroline Dries, executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, and executives at The CW saying: “I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again, and so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.”
Dries was singled out, Rose alleging the showrunenr only visited the set four times a year and was rushing to finish the season during COVID while every other production was shutting down. Rose also singles out former CW president Peter Roth with some serious allegations of inappropriate behavior.
Rose added that they will never return for a cameo on the series: “So in closing, please to my dear, dear fans stop asking if I will return to that awful show, I wouldn’t return for any amount of money nor if a gun were to my head.”
Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the series, has released a strongly worded statement in response – corroborating the claim that Rose were fired from the show, but calls Rose’s account ‘revisionist history’.
In addition WBTV state the action was the result of an internal probe into ‘multiple complaints about workplace behavior’ against Rose – confirming a long rumored investigation into Rose’s behavior. Javicia Leslie initially replaced Rose ahead of season two in the role of Ryan Wilder, who takes on the mantle of Batwoman.
The allegations come in the wake of the near IATSE strike which would’ve protested unsafe work conditions along with overworked crew and cast.
