Cinnamon, pepper & cloves prices increase

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Market prices of a number of major export crops including cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg, cloves, and coffee have increased.

Meanwhile, at a time when there is a shortage of dollars in the country, the Department of Export Agriculture stated that by September 30 this year alone, the export of spices has earned USD 350 million.

At present, the price of a kilogram of pepper in the market has increased to Rs. 900 and in the past, it was Rs.500.

In addition, the price of a kilogram of cinnamon has increased to Rs. 3,400.

The Department of Export Agriculture stated that the price of a kilogram of cloves has increased to Rs. 1,400 and the price of a kilogram of nutmeg to Rs. 1,000.

The price of a kilogram of coffee has increased to Rs. 1,250.

The Department of Export Agriculture further stated that the price of a kilogram of arecanuts has increased to Rs. 1,000.

So far this year alone, over 45,000 metric tons of major export crops including cinnamon, pepper, and cloves have been exported.
