‘Livelihoods of citizens affected due to economic recession’

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the current economic recession in the country has severely affected the livelihoods of Sri Lankans.

Speaking at the first of a series of protests organised by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya in opposition to the price hike of essentials, MP Premadasa said the country’s unborn children will have to pay the price for the governments short-sighted economic policies.

He stressed the right to life of children, youth and adults have been threatened since the government has failed to secure basic human rights as stated in the Constitution.

MP Sajith Premadasa also stated that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is ready to take over governance, to guarantee a better future for the people.

He noted that prices of essentials along with medication have skyrocketed, at a time when people are suffering in a falling economy.

The Parliamentarian said development is essential, while adding that a country must remain in order for people to experience this development.

MP Sajith Premadasa stressed on the need for a change in government since the current administration has failed to do their duty.
