(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has been granted bail by the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (14).

Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered the release of the Parliamentarian on 2 sureties of Rs. 1,000,000 each, and ordered him to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) every 2-weeks.

In addition, the Court ordered to retain his passport and imposed a travel ban.

Former Minister, who was arrested by the CID for questioning in connection with the Easter attack, has been remanded for nearly 6-months.
On a separate incident, a domestic helper who worked in residence, died in a fire while he was in remand custody.

The accusations were levelled against him in connection with the incident.

However, when the case was taken up in the Court today, the Magistrate ordered Rishad be granted bail over the accusations related to domestic helper as well.
Earlier, the Supreme Court decided that the Fundamental Rights (FR) Petitions filed by the Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) and his brother Riyaj Bathiudeen through their lawyers, be called for further consideration.

The Petitioners, who were arrested and remanded in connection with the Easter attack, seeked orders to release them.

The Petitioners emphasised that they were arrested by the CID on 24 April in connection with the Easter attack and were in remand custody for nearly 6-months.
They asked the Supreme Court to issue an order for their release as they have nothing to do with the accusations.
