(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Supreme Court has decided that the Fundamental Rights (FR) Petitions filed by former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and his brother Riyaj Bathiudeen through their lawyers, be called for further consideration.

The Petitioners, who have been arrested and remanded in connection with the Easter attack, are seeking an order to release them.

The Petition was taken up before Judge Bench comprising Gamini Amarasekera, Murdu Fernando, and Vijith Malalgoda today (12).

The Bench directed that further consideration of the Petitions be called on Friday (15).

The Petitioners emphasised that they were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 24 April in connection with the Easter attack and are still in remand custody.

They have asked the Supreme Court to issue an order for their release as they have nothing to do with the attack.
