Health Unions on Strike

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Health Trade Union Alliance has withdrawn from services in a 5 1/2-hour strike action that got underway at 7am.

The strike action is being held over the suspension of the Rs.7,500 COVID allowance and several other demands.

President of the Government Nurses’ Association Saman Rathnapriya said the strike is not being worked off at COVID treatment hospitals, the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital and the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama.

He said a protest will be staged opposite all hospitals from noon to 12.30pm today.

Rathnapriya said they do not intend on inconveniencing the public.

He added in the event authorities fail to provide favourable solutions to their demands, a continuous strike action will be launched.
