There is not a shred of evidence against Rishad; Opposition condemns detention

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Opposition raised concerns pertaining to the imprisonment of Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen, as the Speaker at the last sitting stated that he would explain to Parliament about the imprisonment of the MP.

The Speaker has a responsibility to protect the rights of Members of Parliament (MPs), Chief Opposition Whip Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella said addressing Parliament today (07).

“The room where MP Rishad is staying will be closed at 5.00 PM. He has to urinate in plastic bottles. According to Islam, Muslims prays twice at night. It needs water. This is unfair. There is also a Ruling Party MP. He also brings food from home. This is party politics. This is what happens when file a political case. The Police work according to the instructions of the Government.

“Do you know? A case was filed against MP Rishad’s brother-in-law. That a woman was raped. He was imprisoned for several weeks. When the medical report came in, the woman was a virgin. That incident is a political conspiracy. There is not a shred of evidence against MP Rishad. We condemn this detention, which violates the privileges of a MP,” Kiriella added.
