Court halts gazette naming new Mannar PS Chairman

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Court of Appeal has directed the Local Government Commissioner of the Northern Provincial Council to refrain from issuing a gazette notification naming a new Chairman to the vacant post of Chairman of the Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha until the 27th of October.

The order was issued by judges Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola today after considering a writ petition filed by former Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Shahul Hameed Mohamed Muhajir.

The bench also directed notice to be issued to the respondents to appear in Court on the 27th.

The petition was filed by Mohammad Muhajir who was elected to the Pradeshiya Sabha at the last Local Authorities Election from the All Ceylon Makkal Congress led by Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.
