Attorney withdraws Azath Salley’s bail application

(UTV | COLOMBO)- The bail application filed by attorney Maithri Gunaratne representing Former Governor of the Western Province Azath Salley, has been withdrawn.

The bail application was withdrawn before Colombo High Court judge Manjula Thilekeratne.

The judge informed Court that the Attorney General has filed indictments against the defendant over a statement he made in relation to the destruction of Buddhist statues in Mawanella and on the charge of making statements inciting racism at two separate Courts.

Therefore, the High Court Judge claimed he does not have the provisions to hear the bail application.

Accordingly, attorney Maithri Gunaratne withdrew the bail application.

A bail application filed by the Former Governor earlier this month was rejected by Court.

A case is being heard against the Former Governor on charges of ties to the suspects involved in an incident related to the destruction of several Buddhist statues in Mawanella.
