IGP requests DGHS to allow bookstores to open

(UTV | COLOMBO) – IGP C.D. Wickramaratne has requested the Director-General of Health Services to allow bookstores to remain open during the COVID-19 travel restriction period, the Government Information Department says.

Accordingly, the IGP has requested permission to keep bookstores open in compliance with the health instructions issued by the Government and under the supervision of public health inspectors.

The IGP has made the recommendation following a written request made by the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association, Samantha Samarasinghe.

The Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association points out that the book publishing industry is facing a tragic situation due to the closure of bookstores on several occasions over the past one and a half years, and that the closure of book stores has adversely affected the online learning facilities of students as well.
