Lasith Malinga announces retirement from all forms of cricket

(UTV | COLOMBO) – T20 stalwart and legendary former Sri Lanka T20 Skipper Lasith Malinga yesterday announced his retirement from all formats of the game.

The 38-year-old paceman earlier retired from Tests and One Day Internationals and finally announced his retirement from T20 cricket. He also retired from franchise cricket recently.

“The experience that I have gained through the past 17 years will no longer be needed in the field since I have decided to retire from T20I cricket marking my retirement from all formats of cricket,” Malinga said.

Malinga said he had high hopes of at least making it to the 19-member Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Squad.

“I thought I would be invited for training before the final selections. I always had my skills and was keen to re-enter the T20 side. But after Sri Lanka named the 19-member squad there is no point having any expectations,” he stressed.

“But I will be continuously supporting the younger generations who thrive to uplift the spirit of the game and I will always be there with all who love the game,” Malinga added.
