Cabraal to resign from Parliament

(UTV | COLOMBO) – State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal will submit his resignation letter to the Secretary General of Parliament next Monday, according to reports.

Sources further revealed that he is to be appointed as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

It was also reported that the re-appointment of Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the new Governor of the Central Bank would be with increased powers for the post.

Accordingly, the powers of a Cabinet Minister will be vested in the new Governor of the Central Bank.

Ajith Nivard Cabraal, who was elected to Parliament from the National List of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, previously.

Meanwhile, the current Governor of the Central Bank Prof. WD Lakshman had stated at a special media briefing yesterday that he will resign from his post next Tuesday.
