Lockdowns cannot succeed without public cooperation – Deputy DGHS

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said yesterday that imposing quarantine curfews will not be beneficial if citizens continue to disregard health guidelines.

He said it is evident that a large number of people are disregarding the curfew at present.

Dr. Hemantha Herath said prevention and controlling the spread of COVID-19 is a collective effort with everyone having a role to play.

The Deputy Director-General of Health Services was speaking to the media yesterday at the Health Promotion Bureau.

Dr. Herath stressed that the government, health sector and society will have to work together to manage the pandemic. He said that prevention is the most important and if everyone plays their part to prevent the spread of coronavirus the health sector can keep it suppressed in Sri Lanka.

If the country can suppress the virus, there is no need to impose wider restrictions or measures that can have such negative impacts on our lives, economy and society.
