GSP+ Vote A Positive Step For SL- Samarasinghe

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe says the Sri Lanka winning the European Union Parliamentary vote on the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus or GSP+ trade concession is a clear indication of the trust placed in the government by the international community.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal the Minister said the actions of certain groups in the lead up to the vote were disappointing.

Minister Samarasinghe said this is another step of the government securing the support of 47 countries during the recently concluded United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva.

The Minister said certain individuals worked tirelessly so that the government will face defeat at the EU vote.

However Minister Samarasinghe said a majority of the MEPs of the various countries that represent the EU Parliament clearly voted in favour of Sri Lanka.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe added the government is devoted to responsibly leading the country’s reconciliation process.
