Govt prepares to purchase oxygen stocks from India

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The government has decided to purchase 100 metric tons of oxygen gas from India for COVID patients who are being treated in hospital intensive care units.

The oxygen stocks which are set to be purchased next week will be delivered to COVID treatment centres immediately.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Health says that they will continue to purchase oxygen from India in the future as required.

Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 disease throughout the island, there is a high demand for oxygen in the Intensive Care Units of hospitals.

According to health sources, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure as the oxygen capacity currently being produced in Sri Lanka is in line with the demand.
