(UTV | COLOMBO) – Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, a specialist at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, stated that a serious situation would arise if the country had to face another COVID wave with the Delta variant.
Deputy Director-General of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr Susie Perera stated that the responsibility of controlling the spread of Delta variant in Sri Lanka lies with the people.
Another 16 samples which are suspected to contain mutated COVID variants have been directed to the Sri Jayewardenepura University Research Laboratory for genetic testing. According to a spokesperson, the results of the testing are expected today (17).
