Another 563 quarantine rule violators arrested

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Another 563 individuals have been arrested on charges of violating quarantine regulations during a 24-hour period.

Police said 46,823 individuals have been arrested over the offence since the 30th of October last year.

A majority of yesterday’s arrests were reported in Ratnapura recording 47, while 66 persons were arrested from Matale and 49 from Batticaloa.

174 persons were meanwhile turned back for attempting to travel across provinces in violation of travel restrictions, with a total of 5,229 individuals inspected at 14 entry and exit points to the Western Province yesterday.

Police said operations pertaining to health guidelines and quarantine regulations will be carried out today as well.

Meanwhile, Police said 15 individuals who attended a meeting at a private insurance company in Nuwara-Eliya were arrested for violating health guidelines and have been released on bail.

Legal action will be filed against the suspects after they complete 14 days of mandatory quarantine.
