Railway trade union calls off strike action

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The strike launched by 34 railway trade unions, has been called off.

The unions called off the strike action after discussions with Minister of Transport Gamini Lokuge.

The union action was launched in protest to the project to establish a train ticketing system worth Rs.4.4 billion.

The trade unions claimed the digital ticketing process, operated jointly with a foreign company, will result in financial fraud.

They also charged the government of launching projects with many technical shortcomings and without investigating the existing process in the country.
