Sony Plans “Made in Abyss” Feature

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Sony Pictures has begun the early development of a film adaptation of Akihito Tsukushi’s manga title “Made in Abyss”.

The story follows an orphan girl named Riko who, along with her robot friend Reg, seeks to find her missing mother who was one of the last notable explorers of a giant hole deep in the Earth called The Abyss.

The Abyss contains artifacts and remnants of a civilization long gone and is a popular hunting spot for Cave Raiders. Those who enter the cave can also experience a curse or malady, one that manifests more acutely the deeper one has gone.

Kevin McMullin (“Low Tide”) is adapting the script with Roy Lee and Masi Oka will produce. The manga previously spawned a 2017 anime TV series and a sequel film that premiered in Japan last year.
