(UTV | COLOMBO) – Warner Bros. Pictures has delayed Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic “Dune” by three weeks, pushing it from October 1st to October 22nd.
The delay was one of several Warners announced today with “The Sopranos” prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark” pushed back a week to October 1st.
Also Clint Eastwood’s “Cry Macho” has been moved up over a month and will now debut September 17th. All three films are still expected to go day-and-date on HBO Max (for the first 31 days) with theatrical.
The “Dune” move gives the title more room to breathe, spacing it two weeks after “No Time to Die” on October 8th and two weeks before “Marvel’s Eternals” on November 5th.
However it is up against a bunch of high profile non-blockbusters including “Halloween Kills” and Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel” the week before along with Edgar Wright’s “Last Night in Soho,” Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” and “Jackass 4” all opening on the 22nd.
