Kiriella raises concerns over Judges declaring withdrawal from considering Rishad’s Petition

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Chief Opposition Whip, Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella today (23) expressed concern in Parliament over Judges declaring withdrawal from considering the Fundamental Rights (FR) Petition filed by Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.

“Rishad Bathiudeen is the Leader of a party. He has been in this Parliament for over 20-years, and he is the first Parliamentarian in history to be placed on remand under detention order as no Parliamentarian has been detained and questioned before.”

“He [Rishad] has filed a petition seeking bail. Every time a Judge comes to the hearing of the case, he leaves. The first withdrew on 28 May and the second on 04 June.

“The Inspector General of Police wrote a letter to the Parliamentary Working Committee in which he said that Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen was completely innocent and had nothing to do with it.

“He [Rishad] has asked for bail 3 times and the Judges have withdrew themselves 3 times,” Kiriella said.
