Police warn public against violating health regulations

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Police today warned the public against violating the updated health guidelines issued by the Health Ministry.

Police spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said the public must strictly adhere to the health guidelines issued by the Health Services Director-General.

The health guidelines will be in effect from today till the 5th of July.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the Police will take action against those found to have violated the health guidelines.

As per the guidelines, only two passengers per vehicle will be allowed in taxi services, while financial institutions can permit only 14 customers at a time inside the premises.

Street vendors have been prohibited from operating in the Western Province, while supermarkets and clothing stores must operate at a 25% customer capacity.

Pubs, Bars, spars, and betting centres have been prohibited alongside parties, public gatherings, and public events during this period.

The Police spokesman said up to 700 roadblocks will be set up across the Western Province starting from today. The roadblocks will consist of 37 permanent roadblocks and the remaining will be snap roadblocks.

Nearly 10,000 Police officers, in uniform and civil attire, have been deployed under three service categories.

DIG Ajith Rohana said they will conduct foot, mobile, and motorcycle patrols to ensure that the public is adhering to the quarantine law.
